Assoc. Professor David Allen

A/Prof David Allen is a Specialist in Occupational and Environmental Medicine and is a Conjoint Associate Professor at the University of New South Wales School of Public Health and Community Medicine. He has 30 years experience in occupational medicine and is actively involved in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

 

David is the Managing Director of Drug and Alcohol Solutions Australia www.dasa.net.au which provides drug and alcohol testing, training and advice across Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Ahmed Saafan

Dr Ahmed  Saafan has years of experience as an occupational health doctor. He is a NSW SIRA-approved injury management consultant, a Certified Medical Review Officer and an appropriate health surveillance medical practitioner NSW.  

 

Ahmed worked as the medical director in a group of occupational health clinics for over a decade and has worked in occupational medicine for 15 years. He has performed hundreds of IMC examinations and conducted countless negotiations with treating practitioners about treatment and return-to-work. Additionally, he has over 10 years experience in Telehealth medicine and served on the committee for change management of the PCEHR and the technical standards for telehealth for Standards Australia.

 

Ahmed is currently a senior medical advisor for InjuryNET and provides broad expertise in all medical matters pertaining to the interface between work and health.

Dr Sugeesh Pathirana

Dr Sugeesh Pathirana is a Specialist in Occupational and Environmental Medicine and has more than 10 years of experience in occupational medicine. During these years, he has had extensive involvement in health and aged care, transport, logistics, manufacturing and process work, construction, hospitality, council work, mining and waste management industries.

 

Dr Pathirana's interests include management of complex work-related injuries, assisting with development of health surveillance programmes for workplaces, assisting stakeholders to plan and implement occupational rehabilitation, Fitness For Duty assessments, provision of Independent Medical Examination of workers' compensation insurance claims, hazardous substance medical assessments, telehealth consultations and health education.

 

Dr Pathirana is a SIRA accredited injury management consultant and a certified Medical Review Officer (MRO), offering advice on drug and alcohol testing.

 

Dr Pathirana holds memberships of the Royal Australian College of Physicians, Australian and New Zealand Society of Occupational Medicine and Australasian Medical Review Officers Association.

Dr Nicolette Hallin

Dr Nicolette Hallin is an Advanced Trainee in Occupational and Environmental Medicine with the Royal Australian College of Physicians. 

 

Dr Hallin has 10 years of experience in clinical medicine.  Prior to commencing work in occupational medicine in 2019 she worked extensively in both the public and private hospital systems, primarily in the setting of inpatient rehabilitation.  She has a passion for wholistic support of injured workers on their recovery journey. 

 

Dr Hallin is skilled in injury management, health surveillance medicals, 

employment medicals and is an Authorised Health Professional for the assessment of Rail Safety Workers.  

Dr Mahima Abeyaratne

Dr Mahima Abeyaratne is a specialist in Occupational and Environmental Medicine with 10 years of experience in occupational medicine. 

 

Dr Abeyaratne has worked mainly in clinical roles and has a passion for workplace injury rehabilitation. Her work has included providing injury management advise for small to large scale businesses across NSW. She has a wide range of experiences in assessment and management of complex claims and providing advice to various stakeholders.

 

Dr Abeyaratne also has a special interest in assessment of safety critical workers in various industries including transport, mining, manufacturing sectors and the rail industry. She provides services in fitness for duty assessments, assistance with development of health surveillance programmes, hazardous substance medical assessments, drug and alcohol advice, health promotion programmes and telehealth injury management consults.
